Whereas;

1. The federal government will introduce new regulations for automotive manufacturers to ban the sale of gas-powered vehicles in Canada by 2035;

2. Under the policy proposed by the government, Canadians will be forced to purchase electric vehicles which cannot be supported by our harsh winter climate and which our electricity grid cannot support.

3. Automotive manufacturers in Canada are expected to see job losses peak in excess of 34,000 jobs annually in 2031 according to the Canadian Journal of Economics.

4. According to industry analysis published in The Globe and Mail, automotive manufacturers will be forced to hold back 1 million internal combustion engine cars from Canadian dealer lots by 2026 as part of the policy’s progressive mandate.

5. According to AutoTrader Canada, the price of an electric vehicle remains approximately $15,000 more expensive than equivalent gas models, even after government subsidies.

 

We, the undersigned, therefore call on the federal government to repeal the mandate for zero-emission vehicles by 2035 and permit automotive manufacturers and Canadians to sell and purchase the vehicles of their choice.
